The Blacklist season 8 is premiering within a week on NBC. The new installment sees Liz Keen (Megan Boone) making a big decision in her life. She is turning her back on Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader). Now, the question is: will both of them betray each other for real?

Based on the premiere photo of The Blacklist season 8 via TV Insider, it's clear that Liz's decision is starting to play out. Back in season 7, she chose to break her partnership with Red and decided to work with her mother, Katarina Rostova (Laila Robins).

Liz is eager to get answers, particularly the truth about Red's identity. She teamed up with Katarina in order to get answers to her questions. But, despite joining forces with Katarina, it looks like Liz will still be working with Red moving forward.

The premiere photo suggests that they're up on a mission or something came up and the two of them were needed. It remains to be seen whether or not Liz will betray Red. However, CarterMatt noted that Boone's character sees Katarina as a means to get answers rather than someone she cherishes the most.

Yet, the trailer of The Blacklist season 8 teased that Liz could be a new adversary in Red's life. As seen in the clip, she is ready to take him down while working alongside Katarina. What makes the situation complicated is that both of them have worked together.

Liz knows Red while the latter recognized that she's an intimidating opponent. There's an emotional bond between them, making it harder to fight each other. In addition, Red cares about Liz and it's unlikely that he'll do something bad to harm her and put her in danger.

If Liz betrays Red, it may have something to do with desperation for answers -- not because she wanted to bring him down. For Red, he is not necessarily betraying Liz by keeping answers from her. Perhaps, there is a huge reason why he chose not to reveal his real identity.

Red might be protecting Liz from all the possible dangers coming after him. The truth could be explored in The Blacklist season 8, though the early run would be challenging for them. They're at odds, but in the end, they'll reconcile and working together again.

As for what else viewers can expect, Red is directing the task force to investigate a legendary criminal name Roanoke -- a reference to the premiere episode title. This person is capable of orchestrating elaborate extractions. At the same, Liz began working on a secret plan with Katarina.

The Blacklist season 8 arrives on Friday, Nov. 13, on NBC.
