The cast of The Witcher Season 2 is growing and the latest addition to the show's talented line-up is a truly important one. The Netflix series has reportedly cast Baldur's Gate III actress Rebecca Hanssen as Queen Meve.

The casting news comes from Redanian Intelligence, which reports that Rebecca Hanssen will be joining The Witcher Season 2. The Scottish actress has reportedly been chosen to play Queen Meve, who plays an important role in the Andrzej Sapkowski books.

The report did not reveal whether Rebecca Hanssen will be part of the main cast or will play a recurring role in the series. However, it was confirmed that she will appear in multiple episodes in The Witcher Season 2 that would be directed by Sarah O'Gorman and Ed Bazalgette. O'Gorman has been confirmed to helm the third and fourth episodes while Bazalgette will work on Episode 5 and Episode 8.

But who is Queen Meve and why is she so important in The Witcher Season 2? In the novels, she is the Queen of Lyria and Rivia who was known for being wise and beautiful. The White Queen was also a powerful warrior, leading her into many battles when the Second Nilfgaard War broke out. Although the war left her face horribly scarred, Meve wore the scars proudly and continued to rule over the two kingdoms.

The idea that Queen Meve will show up in The Witcher Season 2 could confirm that the show will feature the Second Nilfgaard War. However, several fans have pointed out that Rebecca Hanssen appears to be too young to play the Queen who would lead battles and end up being scarred. With that in mind, it is believed that Meve will be shown during her younger years.

Rebecca Hanssen has appeared in several short films including Run Rabbit, Two, and The Unfamiliar. She is currently working on the upcoming video game Baldur's Gate III where she will provide the voice of Alfira. Needless to say, Hanssen is going to be an awesome addition to The Witcher Season 2.

For now, production on The Witcher Season 2 has been put on hold after four crew members and a stunt person tested positive for COVID-19. However, fans can rest assured that the main cast including Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allen have not been affected.

The Witcher Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. However, it is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2021.
