Outlander season 6 hasn't started filming until now and fans have been wondering when the production could start. There are a lot of speculations about the filming schedule of the series, with some suggesting that work could resume in January 2020.

The Starz series is one of the shows that have been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, there are questions regarding the show's return. But previously, series star Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) offered an update on the potential production schedule of Outlander season 6.

During an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan, Heughan revealed to hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that work on the latest installment is underway -- including costuming. The actor said that they're "definitely gearing up" despite the delays caused by the pandemic.

Then, Heughan revealed that he's been in a few times for costume fittings. However, the actor made it clear that the current global health crisis will change the whole production process. He noted that the cast and crew have to adapt to the changes and they're looking at a new way of working around it.

When Ripa and Seacrest asked Heughan whether Outlander season 6 will cut certain sex scenes due to COVID-19 safety guidelines and protocols, the actor responded he has to stay two meters apart from his co-star, Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), and this provides "interesting love scenes."

Heughan added that such a scene is still included since it's an "essential part" of the story. But, despite the actor's hints that the series is close to starting production, executive producer Maril Davis shared that the latest installment doesn't have an official production start date.

In one of her previous posts on Twitter, Davis made it clear they don't have a start date for the next season. She noted that they don't usually announce the production start date unless they're actually back in production. Thus, there are still uncertainties as to when everything could officially begin.

Meanwhile, Starz hasn't released the official plot details of Outlander season 6. But, the next chapter is based on the sixth book in Diana Gabaldon's series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. It could see Jamie drawing into the American Revolution and the Frasers trying to lead a peaceful life in North Carolina.

However, it is uncertain whether the latest installment follows the trajectory of the books. Executive producer Ronald Moore told Entertainment Weekly that they've discussed splitting books, as well as combining them. In Outlander season 6, could see a different approach in the story.
