The Curse of Oak Island season 8 premiered on History just recently and there's already a significant discovery in the first episode. The team unearthed a single old coin, which could provide clues to the mysteries surrounding the island, as well as the speculated Money Pit.

In the premiere of The Curse of Oak Island season 8, the team found signs of metal in the area, including an indication of a lot of iron. But then, there is also a possible sign of other non-ferrous metals such as silver and gold. This leads to the team believing they're getting closer to uncovering the Money Pit.

The island is said to be surrounded by mysteries and a big treasure was buried deep down the soil's surface. Since the 19th century, a lot of treasure hunters have attempted to locate the speculated valuable items. Now, the Lagina brothers, Rick and Marty, along with their team, have tried to find the loot.

In a clip, metal detection expert Gary Drayton said that there's a lot of metal in the area and some non-ferrous targets. Using a more precise metal detector, the team first found what they believed a broken ax. They speculated it to be older than the discovery of the Money Pit back in 1975.

However, the most significant finding in the first episode of The Curse of Oak Island season 8 is the discovery of the old gold coin. The item is said to be similar to a metal washer and has a square hole in the center. Also, there is an indication of writing or symbols in the object.

Drayton noted that it might be an "old-old" coin because of the square hole in the center. He added that it doesn't appear as though the item is European. He noted that it probably came from "somewhere much more exotic."

While the team found coins on the island over the past years, they think that their recent discovery is the oldest they've unearthed one based on its shape and patina. Drayton estimated it to be dated somewhere between the 1600s or 1700s.

The discovery of this coin proved to be significant in the journey of the team in The Curse of Oak Island season 8. Some suggest that the item belongs to the Money Pit, but others think that it's just part of the items buried in the ground, adding more mysteries on the island.

The second episode of The Curse of Oak Island season 8 is coming on Tuesday, Nov. 17 on History Channel.
