After 15 years, fans may once again see John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) back to the big screen in Constantine 2. Rumors have it a sequel is now in the works as teased by Peter Stormare himself, who played the role of Satan in the original movie.
Stormare surprised everyone when he announced Constantine 2 is in the works in a post on Instagram. The 67-year-old star shared a photo of himself while he was in character, dubbed as the "one of the best versions of Satan in film history."
The first movie dropped in 2005 and earned more than $230 million worldwide. According to Fox Exclusive, director Francis Lawrence and its lead star, Reeves, both shared interest to make a sequel. Now, it looks like it is about to see the light of the day.
According to Hypebeast, Lawrence revealed everyone was interested in doing the second movie, including Reeves himself. He even said they had been talking about it as of late.
Lawrence told Gizmodo they worked on the sequel for a while and it was quite tricky to come up with an idea on where they would take its story. However, with all the shared universes currently existing, it may be easier for them to do so. Constantine is known to be part of Vertigo, which comes from DC.
As there are now plans for these shared universes, they may now begin Constantine 2. There may be different Constantines, though. However, Lawrence admitted he doesn't have that character available either for TV or movies.
Lawrence continued that with the cult following the original film has, doing Constantine 2 is a fun thing to do. Aside from Reeves, he also discussed it with the first film's producer Akiva Goldsman.
The original Constantine movie introduced Reeves as Constantine, an ordinary guy with extraordinary ability. He had to save the planet from the evils that most people didn't know lurking on earth.
The world was filled with good and evil spirits that walked among humans in disguise, which Constantine could see. After he was saved from taking his own life, he was then bestowed to become the middle ground guardian between Paradise and Hell, becoming a detective of the occult and paranormal.
Anyhow, despite the intense noise of the rumors, neither Warner Bros. nor DC Films have yet to confirm the coming of Constantine 2, per MovieWeb. The two studios remain mum about the making of a sequel, making its future still unknown.
