Princess Diana's brother, Earl Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, revealed that he turned down one specific request from the producers of The Crown. The popular royal drama series on Netflix apparently made the Princess of Wales' brother quite uneasy that he outright refused the team when they asked to shoot at Althorp House for season 4.

The said mansion is where Princess Diana grew up and has been the Spencers' family home since 1508. Speaking on ITV's Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, Earl Spencer confirmed that he rejected the Netflix show because he obviously didn't want the cast and crew on their actual property.

As her brother, Earl Spencer said that he feels it's his duty to protect Princess Diana, especially when the latest season of The Crown details her tragic marriage to Prince Charles and depicts her distressing eating disorder. He said that some viewers of the popular series, especially the foreigners, might treat the story as an actual history lesson. Earl Spencer reminded viewers that The Crown is a work of fiction.

Actress Emma Corrin was introduced as Princess Diana in season 4 and has also addressed the criticisms from those who actually know the royal. Appearing at the Tamron Hall Show, Corrin said that they had not claimed the story as other than fictionalized. She also stressed that the scripts, while rooted in reality, are from the ideas and creativity of creator Peter Morgan.

Corrin also said that she gets why people can be upset over the series since Princess Diana's legacy, and memory still lives on for many people.

Meanwhile, according to The Tab, Ragley Hall in Warwickshire became the substitution for Althorp House in the series. It is the Marquess of Hertford's ancestral house, and it's usually rented out for events all year round.

Earl Spencer lives and takes care of the Althorp House in Northamptonshire with Karen, his third wife, and their daughter, Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer. The property has 90 rooms filled with art pieces, ceramics, sculptures, and the finest European furniture.

Althorp House is open for tours and has flocks of visitors, especially during the summer season. Princess Diana's burial site is not part of the tour. Her body lies in the middle of a small lake on a private island within the 550-acre park, which Earl Spencer had specifically built as his sister's secluded, final resting place.
