Fans will soon see the anime adaptation of Square Enix's The World Ends with You. The title's official website revealed two key visuals, a second promotional video, and its premiere date.

The teaser featured The World Ends with You's opening theme, titled "Teenage City Riot," by Ali. It also tried to explain the anime's main plot when the main star, Neku Sakuraba, woke up in a new world.

He has to survive for seven days to win and get out of the place he is into. If he doesn't make it, he will eventually die.

Originally known as a mobile game, the anime will occur in the fictional world of Shibuya's shopping district in Tokyo. Here, the dead are being brought in an alternate plane of existence, called the Underground (UG), Epic Dope noted.

In the game version, each player has to complete seven missions, using the gifted abilities that can only work with a partner. So, in the anime, Neku will use it with a girl named Shiki to help them unleash their real powers. Neku will also use his unusual move against a monster-like creature.

IGN reported the anime would be sticking to the game's cult classic tale, where everyone has to survive the Reapers' twisted trials. The coming of The World Ends with You on TV was earlier revealed in June this year, during the Anime Expo Lite.

Funimation then gave the first look of the series by dropping its first-ever trailer in July, showing how Neku's world would look in motion. TWEWY and Final Fantasy character designer Tetsuya Nomura would be the new anime's creative producer.

Google Play Store, via AniTrendz, describes the game's premise as a "mishmash of attitudes and style" in the middle of Tokyo. Neku will find himself in a crowded intersection, unaware of how he gets there.

He then receives a text, saying he has to complete a mission or "face erasure." Neku seems to be forced to play a life or death game, doing one riddle after another. In the anime, will Neku manage to survive?

Talking about The World Ends with You, the staff and cast said at the Anime Expo Lite special panel that the show would feature everything modern. From contemporary fictional Shibuya to gadgets, although some of the major buildings that will be seen here will be from 2007, the game was released.

The World Ends with You is set to be out in April 2021, although its exact date is yet to be revealed.
