Vikings season 6 return date has been officially confirmed. Many were delighted to see the historical drama coming back before the year ends. However, some changes were made, as the remaining 10 episodes will be dropped on Amazon Prime Video instead of its original network History Channel.
Recently, it was announced that the second half of Vikings season 6, which serves as the final installment, is arriving on Amazon Prime Video. The streaming service, reportedly, secured the exclusive rights of the hit historical drama. All 10 episodes will be dropped on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
Viewers in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, and Germany will be the first ones to witness the epic series finale. However, viewers at History Channel may need to wait for a little while as the series finale won't be arriving on the network anytime soon.
Now that the return date of Vikings season 6 has been confirmed, fans were excited to see how the historical drama will end. Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig), who was initially presumed dead in the midseason finale, will continue his journey.
The second half picks up the epic events that transpired in "The Best laid Plans," with Bjorn struggling to fight for his life after his brother Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen) attacked him. Even though the former survives his situation, stakes are higher in the series finale.
Back in July, History Channel unveiled a sneak peek, teasing what was stored in the second half. Ivar strikes his sword on Bjorn's chest in the midseason finale, with some believed the latter met his tragic death. But, the clip confirmed that Ludwig's character is still alive.
Moreover, the promo sees Bjorn and Ivar at the battlefield -- seemingly preparing for their final showdown. The big battle is coming, and most lives are in danger. A priest was also seen blessing everyone, but a voice in the background can be heard saying how a sacrifice should've been made.
Although fans were sad to see Vikings season 6 being the final installment, the good news is that a spin-off series is coming. Netflix will be releasing Vikings: Valhalla, which is the continuation of the flagship show that took place about 100 years after. No further details have been revealed, but it will likely follow new characters, as well as new battles and journeys.
