Batwoman season 2 will be introducing a new titular superhero once it arrives in 2021 on The CW. Javicia Leslie takes on the cape and she'll be playing the role of Ryan Wilder. But, before moving into a new chapter, the series will address first the sudden disappearance of Ruby Rose's Kate Kane.

Earlier this year, Rose announced that she won't be reprising her titular role in Batwoman season 2. Many were shocked by her decision, and it prompted the network to look for a new actress to play the role. Then, it was confirmed that Leslie would be the new frontrunner of the series.

Despite Rose's departure, the series will properly address her character's exit. In fact, the title of the premiere episode is "Whatever Happened To Kate Kane." This is a clear indication that the series would spend its time exploring this particular subject.

In a report via CBR, showrunner Caroline Dries noted that the early part of the second installment centers on Kate's disappearance. Viewers will see this as one of the biggest problems for her friends, as well as Gotham City. The series will be delivering answers as to what happened to the character.

But beyond this storyline, the story will focus on the introduction of Ryan Wilder in Batwoman season 2. Before officially taking the cape, she's going to be one of the many people investigating the disappearance of Kate. The new titular character is said to be entirely different from Kate.

Ryan has spent most of her years working as a drug-runner and is now living in a van with her plant. One of the similarities she has with the former titular character is that she's "gay and a highly skilled warrior," albeit with different fighting styles.

Since Kate disappeared and the city is missing its superhero, Ryan will step in to stop the chaos. Yet, there are still many things that needed to be tackled, especially since the people were used to seeing Kate, so there would be some adjustments.

In addition to Leslie's Ryan, Batwoman season 2 will also introduce other new characters. For instance, Shivaani Ghai is set to play the role of Saifyah, the villainous ruler of Coryana, who was referenced several times in the first installment.

Leah Gibson plays Tatiana/The Whisper, Safiyah's loyal skilled assassin. Nathan Owens stars as Ocean, a loyal soldier and a zen gardener who went to Gotham to have a fresh start. Alex Morf plays the charismatic Victor Zsas, a "skilled hitman with high, unpredictable energy."

Batwoman season 2 premieres on Sunday, January 17, 2021, on The CW.
