Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 is officially coming next year on NBC. The second installment sees the titular character embarking on a new journey. However, she also needs to deal with the aftermath of everything that transpired in the previous season.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 begins with Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy) feeling vulnerable. She lost her father, Mitch Clarke (Peter Gallagher), in season 1, and this will create a huge impact on her life moving forward into the next chapter. She must live her life even though her dad is gone for good.

When it comes to the titular character's romantic life, the love triangle is going to be a huge part of her story, as well. This is something that's been followed in the previous installment, and viewers will continue to see Zoey's complicated love life.

Some good things are coming for her in terms of professional achievements. Her workplace proved to be fun for her, although some troubles are usually coming in the way. The titular character will discover more about herself, as the poster suggests, "She's finding her own voice."

The musical comedy-drama won't stop in delivering a long of entertainment. There'll be plenty of singing in Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 -- just like what viewers saw in the first season. A lot of songs will be featured, along with fun performances from some of the characters.

But while the focus is on music, the new chapter will still address the titular character's ability to hear other people's song in the heart. In a previous report from TVLine, executive producer Austin Winsberg noted that the second installment would explore the origin of this ability.

This unique ability seemingly rooted when an earthquake occurred during Zoey's MRI scan. However, the series didn't really explore where this power came from and whether or not she can control it. Now, this is going to be one of the bigger parts of the storyline in the next installment.

Meanwhile, new characters are coming in Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2. Jee Young Han is set to portray the role of Jenna Kang, the older sister of Emily Kang (Alice Lee). She's going to help her younger sister and David Clarke (Andrew Leeds) with their new baby.

Harvey Guillén plays George, an "overeager programmer" who's doing his best to please Zoey and his colleagues at SPRQ Point. Felix Mallard will recur as the Aiden, the titular character's childhood friend and neighbor. He's moving back to San Francisco after spending most of his time in Asia.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 premieres on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, on NBC.
