Apple reportedly working to improve its silicon chips that the company intends to release as early as 2021, which seeks to clobber Intel processors in terms of performance.

It appears that Apple is far from satisfied with the excellent performance of its M1 systems, which debuted on its new Mac lineup. Reports say that the Cupertino tech giant is currently working to improve its Apple Silicon chips that may be ready for release as early as 2021 and have the singular aim of outperforming even the fastest Intel-based machines. At present, Apple Silicon chips show a slight edge over counterparts powered by Intel processors.

According to reports, the first generation Apple Silicon chips offer performance gains over other competing chips like AMD and Intel processors. The next-generation Apple Silicon chips, which the Cupertino tech giant intends to release as early as 2021, seeks to leave its competition biting the dust. Apple engineers, rumors say, have the singular aim of outpacing machines with AMD or Intel processors.

In a report filed by Bloomberg Monday, the Cupertino company is getting ready to launch the next series of its Apple Silicon chips in Macs as early as spring of 2021. Sources say the performance of the new Apple Silicon chips could considerably outperform the speeds of some of the fastest machines in the market, including those powered by Intel processors.

Apple Silicon chip M1 entered the processor world only in November and yet many already consider the chip as a "game-changer" in the PC market. In an interview with Computer Reseller News (CRN), Jerry Zigmont, the owner of MacWorks, an Apple consultancy firm based in New Haven, Connecticut, said that if subsequent generations of Apple Silicon chips are as fast as rumored, it might present a piece of really bad news for Intel processors, as well as manufacturers of Intel-based computers. "Unless some other manufacturer answers Apple's chip design, and comes up with some competitor, Apple could decimate the market in terms of market share," said Zigmont, adding that with its chip architecture years ahead of its competitors, others may find it difficult to play catch-up that fast.

In terms of market share, Apple's Mac holds around 7.7% of the global PC market as of the third quarter of this year. If you compared it with last year's data, the growth is essentially flat, research outfit Gartner reported. Its market share in the U.S. stands at around 14.5%. However, this may change with the promise of an improved Apple Silicon chip that seeks to outpace premier Intel processors on performance, which the company intends to release as early as 2021. Reports indicate that Apple may launch new MacBook Pro and iMac models in spring of 2021, with the machines featuring new and improved Apple Silicon chips with up to 16 high-performance cores with four efficiency cores. Apple Silicon chips slated for release in 2022, according to Bloomberg, can include up to 32 high-performance cores.
