Emmy Rossum's return as Fiona Gallagher in Shameless season 11 remains uncertain until now. The character played a significant part in the comedy-drama before departing in the series in season 9. Now that the show is ending, some have been wondering whether she'll be making a return.

Shameless season 11 is still on its early run, so it's unknown if Rossum will be reprising her role as Fiona. One of the major concerns here is the actress' schedule. But, if ever she won't be making an official appearance, is there a chance the character will be referenced at some point?

Fiona is one of the most notable characters throughout the series' run. Her official return in the series finale hasn't been confirmed until now. It looks like the cast and crew haven't had ideas if Rossum will also reprise her role in the show at some point.

In a recent interview with TVLine, showrunner John Wells has something to say about whether or not Rossum is returning before the series ends. He noted that it is too early to tell if the character is coming back, and they weren't decided if she'll be mentioned in the final installment.

Wells said that he doesn't want to think about the possibility that Rossum won't be coming back as Fiona in Shameless season 11. Right now, everything depends on the scheduling matter, as well as finding the right way to include her in the story again.

Rossum's Fiona, who's been as series regular from season 1 to 9, is the oldest among the Gallagher siblings. She took care of the family after their mother walked away. However, she started struggling between looking after them and moving forward with her own life.

In the event that she's going to show up in Shameless season 11, Showtime might be secretive about it. CarterMatt noted that Fiona's return will be a surprise and comes out of nowhere. This will also further hype up fans' excitement until the end.

In another report, the third episode is coming later this week, titled "Frances Francis Franny Frank." Based on the promo, there is a brewing tension between Debbie Gallagher (Emma Kenney) and V Fisher (Shanola Hampton) -- with their daughters at the center of it.

In addition, the clip shows Carl Gallagher (Ethan Cutkosky) making his first arrest. This is something that he didn't expect during his first day, but there could be changes along the way. His storyline proved to be chaotic, though a potential love interest is coming for him.

Shameless season 11 is dropping its new episodes every Sunday night on Showtime.
