This Is Us season 5 episode 5 won't be airing until next year on NBC. The romantic family drama has been on hiatus since November after airing just four episodes. Once it returns, fans will see more stories surrounding Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz) -- particularly what she's been through in the past.
An unknown part of Kate's past will be addressed in This Is Us season 5 episode 5. This is something that involves her ex-boyfriend, Marc. She has been through a lot while she's with him -- he's abusive, manipulative, and took advantage of her.
As it turns out, Marc was the father of Kate's unborn baby. The series will dive back into the past to further flesh out what happened between the two. A recently-released photo featured a teenage Kate (Hannah Zeile) and teenage Marc Marc (Austin Abrams).
In the fall finale, Kate found out that she's pregnant, and she decided to meet up with her ex-boyfriend. But then, it remains to be seen whether or not she told Marc about her current condition. This will be a huge storyline in This Is Us season 5 episode 5.
Marc was last seen being thrown by Kate's mother Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and her then-teenage brothers Randall (now played Sterling K. Brown) and Kevin (Justin Hartley) after emotionally and physically abusing Kate. He caused huge trouble to the Pearsons in the past.
Kate's pregnancy came out the time the family has been going through a lot. Rebecca was mourning her husband's Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) death, while Randall and Kevin were focused on other things. This could be the reason why she goes to Marc, as seen in the photo.
However, there is no clear indication that she told her ex-boyfriend about her pregnancy. The picture doesn't directly suggest that Kate revealed her condition. Perhaps, she goes to him to talk about other things. There are still a lot of things that needed to be addressed here.
This Is Us season 5 episode 5 will be one of the biggest episodes for Kate so far. It will see her spending and wasting her time going out with Marc even though he ends up hurting her. Fans may also learn how Marc impacts Kate's life in the present, although he's nowhere to be found.
Kate and Toby Damon (Chris Sullivan) were in the process of adopting a child in the present. Her past may have something to do with her decision to adopt. She and her husband were determined to push this through, but they recognized that the process wouldn't be easy as it seems.
