Prodigal Son season 2 is arriving next year on Fox with more mysteries coming moving forward. The crime drama has been sharing updates on what to expect next before its official release. In fact, a recently-released video featured some cast members discussing what lies ahead.

The new clip featured Tom Payne, Michael Sheen, Halston Sage, Lou Diamon Phillips, and other cast members teasing what viewers can anticipate. Prodigal Son season 2 will, particularly, pick up what Ainsley Whitly (Sage) did in the season 1 finale.

She's responsible for Nicholas Endicott's (Dermot Mulroney) death, which made her somewhat terrifying. The main question now is: how far can Malcolm Bright (Payne) go to protect his sister? In the video, he tried to convince Ainsley that he's the one responsible for the murder.

Because of this, Payne teased that his character will rely on someone unexpected in Prodigal Son season 2. He's determined to get what he wants, even if that means he'll be working with an unlikely ally. There is a huge possibility that this person would be his father, Martin Whitly (Sheen).

Bright's life turns upside down because of what happened. He'll try to find ways to handle what his sister did while dealing with his father at the same time. The second installment's synopsis notes that his life shook to the core following the events in the first season.

He will protect his family from the secrets that could potentially tear them apart again. However, Martin reconnects with Bright to repair their relationship, making it even harder for him. There'll be unexpected twists and turns coming along the way.

Meanwhile, two recurring characters are joining the rest in Prodigal Son season 2. Christian Borle and Michael Potts are confirmed to be appearing in the crime drama. Their roles have ties on Martin, and their presence impacts Bright's life in some ways.

Borle plays the "extremely dangerous" Friar Pete. The recurring character used to be a friar, but he was ejected from his church because of his extremist view. He's known for a notorious killing spree, and he eventually ended up in a psychiatric ward with Martin.

Potts, on the other hand, will be playing the character of Dr. Brandon Marsh. He is going to be the new therapist of Martin at Claremont. He is string hard at his job as he wanted to achieve a certain goal, which is having a breakthrough with his psychiatric patients.

Prodigal Son season 2 is premiering on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, on Fox.
