9-1-1: Lone Star season 2 is officially coming next year on Fox following a quite long hiatus. The procedural drama has been renewed in April 2020, just a month after the season 1 finale. Now, the series is coming back and is set to bring more intense stories.

One of the biggest things to expect in 9-1-1: Lone Star season 2 is the arrival of a new character. Suits alum Gina Torres has been confirmed to be joining the rest of the cast in the second installment. The actress will be playing the role of the new paramedic captain, Tommy Vega.

Torres' character will be the latest series regular in the series, replacing the spot of Liv Tyler's Michelle Blake. Tommy Vega's arrival is related to the pandemic-themed storyline, as well. The COVID-19 will be one of the major storylines in the early run of the series.

Tommy Vega joins the team after being hugely impacted by the health crisis. She was at the "top of her game" but decided to hang up her uniform to raise her twin daughters. She'll be joining the workforce again in order to support her family after the restaurant of her husband goes under.

Now, the recently-released promo of 9-1-1: Lone Star season 2 shows how Torres' character impacts the team with her arrival. There are going to be a lot of humor but more intense moments, as well. And while she replaced Tyler's Blake, the two characters are completely different in a lot of ways.

Captain Owen Stran (Rob Lowe) welcomes Vega on board. At the same time, he is forced to face his ex-wife's, Gwyneth (Lisa Edelstein), unexpected arrival. She traveled to Austin to visit their son, T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein), who sustained injuries at the end of season 1.

As for what else is coming to everyone else, the rescue squad deals with an emergency that the Texas capital has never encountered before. This might be related to the pandemic, though it may also have to do with a volcanic eruption.

9-1-1: Lone Star season 2 will likely kick off with a huge disaster. There's going to be a volcanic eruption at the center of it -- which began at the bottom of a swimming pool. This is quite odd, but the team has to do whatever they can to save everyone in danger.

9-1-1: Lone Star season 2 is set to premiere on Monday, January 18, 2021, on Fox.
