Kate Middleton and Prince William posted a heartfelt message on Instagram to greet their followers on Christmas Day and instead of wishing everyone a "Merry Christmas" because "it didn't feel right," the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said that they wish for a better 2021.

The post has received over 300,000 likes on Instagram as of press time, along with photos of the different essential workers on duty this holiday season. Kate and William acknowledged the frontliners who continue to put their lives at risk while looking after the rest of the public.

According to Harper's Bazaar, the tone of the message is quite unusual since the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also celebrating Christmas Day away from their family. Queen Elizabeth called off the traditional royal family reunion at Sandringham to follow the United Kingdom's COVID-19 guidelines. Kate, William, and their children can't travel to the Middleton's family home as well due to the Tier 4 lockdown rules.

People reported that a Tier 4 lockdown ban households mixing or having overnight stays at someone else's home this holiday. Travel is also discouraged with no entry or exit among regions in Tier 4 to prevent a community infection of the dreaded virus.

It is understood that the Cambridge family will stay at their country home until the holiday season as Prince George and Charlotte doesn't have to be back in school in London until the first week of January 2021.

Despite celebrating this festive season apart, Daily Mail reported that the royal family exchanged gifts over the holidays, especially Kate and William with Harry and Meghan. Royal biographer Andrew Morton confirmed that Harry and Meghan's present included a personal message done in calligraphy by the Duchess of Sussex. Even the Cambridge children -- George, Charlotte, and Louis -- received handwritten notes from Harry's wife. Morton also shared that William and Harry, as well as Prince Charles, spoke to each other on Christmas Day.

Instead of an in-person gathering, the royal family had a Zoom virtual party, which also included Harry and Meghan, who are all the way in California. Sources said that the Sussex pair's relationship with Kate and William has improved after their much-publicized rift for the last two years.
