Chicago Fire season 9 episode 3 is just only a week away from arriving on NBC. This will serve as the winter premiere of the firefighter drama, which comes with the title "Smash Therapy." Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) will have their own storyline here.

Most fans have been rooting for Casey and Brett even though the two haven't made things between them official. They're close to becoming an official couple, but they have to face several challenges first. In fact, some of these are going to play out in Chicago Fire season 9 episode 3.

In the previous episode, Casey and Brett kissed. Although fans were delighted that the two are heading in a romantic direction, there's still a question on how they're going to start their future together. They have to consider other things before making everything official between them.

Based on the synopsis, they'll be discussing what they want for their future. However, the biggest problem is that Casey's sustained feelings for Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund). They two were married, but they drifted apart due to certain circumstances.

If Casey wants to move forward and start a new life with Brett, he needs to resolve his left feelings for Dawson first. While they do have feelings for each other, they know that they must settle some things before taking their relationship to the next level.

Elsewhere in Chicago Fire season 9 episode 3, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) turns to Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) for support. The former is making a huge step in her career, especially since she was given a great opportunity. Yet, she's contemplating whether to stay on her current job or not.

Also, Chicago Fire season 9 episode 3 sees Mouch McHolland (Christian Stolte) questioning his abilities after a mishap on the aerial ladder during a fire rescue. This storyline will be a huge part of the winter premiere, as well.

Mouch is often struggling and there is a concern on whether or not he can keep his old self while working out in the field. There's also a question if he still wants to be a firefighter moving forward. For now, there are still more stories to tell when it comes to this character.

Chicago Fire season 9 episode 3 airs on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, on NBC.
