Fans have been getting a lot of updates on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 ahead of its official release. The latest installment of the musical comedy-drama is coming out this week on NBC, and it'll continue to follow Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy) exploring her abilities.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 also sees the titular character dealing with the loss of her father, Mitch Clarke (Peter Gallagher). The grief she's currently feeling is something that she'll try to come to terms with throughout the second installment.

Even though Mitch is dead, he's still part of the story in some form. In fact, the latest trailer featured Zoey's father in a video message, when he was still able to speak and communicate. He presented a road-map, but he didn't realize that his daughter could still hear his inner thoughts.

The titular character formed a close bond with her father, and his death may cause a huge impact on her in Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2. Mitch could still play an essential role in his daughter's life, most especially on an emotional level.

While dealing with this, the latest installment will further flesh out her special abilities. There are a lot of questions surrounding her "powers," which first emerged when an earthquake occurred while she's undergoing an MRI scan.

Meanwhile, the trailer also teased what's coming for Zoey's complicated love life. The clip further hypes up the love triangle between the titular character, Max (Skylar Astin), and Simon (John Clarence Stewart). Both men are vying for her attention, and it's interesting to see whom she'll choose.

Three new characters will also be introduced in Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2. Jee Young Han is set to play Jenna Kang, Emily Kang's (Alice Lee) older sister. She's going to help her younger sister David Clarke (Andrew Leeds) living their new lives as parents.

Felix Mallard will be portraying the character of Aiden. He is the childhood friend and neighbor of Zoey. He's returning to San Francisco after spending most of his time in Asia. Harvey Guillén plays Glenn, a new employee who wants to please his colleagues at SPRQ Point.

The second season kicks off with a premiere title "Zoey's Extraordinary Return." The titular character is returning to the world following an extended time away. Then, she discovered that a lot of things have changed -- both in work and personal life -- in her absence.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist season 2 will be premiering on Tuesday, January 5, on NBC.
