Mesut Ozil is out of the Emirates by the end of the season but the German playmaker could move away this January and his likely destination is Turkish club Fenerbahce. The details of the reported transfer remain unknown and the Super Lig side does not intend to break radio silence.

Arsenal dropped Ozil from the squad before the start of the season's campaign and the move further extended his absence from the pitch. The attacking midfielder last appeared before the matches were suspended in March 2020 and the loss of playing time pointed to his imminent exit.

Interest from other clubs have been linked to Ozil and his transfer possibilities included Qatar and MLS in the United States. However, the most likely destination for the 32-year-old is Turkey where his wife is a citizen.

According to Goal, the Arsenal star is nearing the completion of a deal that will see him wearing the Fenerbahce shirt next season. His next contract will require Ozil to play in Turkey for three years and six months and reportedly, the agreement will be finalized soon.

Fenerbahce manager Erol Bulut did address the matter but stopped short of giving out the juicy details. He hinted though that more information will be provided soon.

"Mesut Ozil's situation will become clear in the coming days ... Mesut's name is very common. It is not possible for me to make a comment before he comes," the boss said.

Erkut Sogut, who represents Ozil, confirmed that the hard details on his client's departure from the Premier League will be known in the coming days, possibly over the next seven to 10 days. The agent noted that the transfer talks only commenced this January following the provisions of Ozil's existing deal with the Gunners.

Sogut added that the negotiations are ongoing and he is making sure that Ozil will get the best options available on the table.

For his part, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said Ozil is within his rights to start exploring the possibilities in the last six months of his stay with the club. The Spaniard maintained that his side will be an active party in the whole process of Ozil's departure.

"We will discuss it internally, what the best situation is for him in the near future, with the player and the agent and try to find the best solution for everybody," Arteta told BBC.

He added that a transfer deal will only move forward if the terms are acceptable for everyone. In the end, what is offered to Ozil must be mutually beneficial to Arsenal as well, added the Gunners head coach.
