Changes are inevitable for the transport industry as the world adapts to a new environment as a result of the virus pandemic.

Electric Evolution

This year, industry experts are expecting a widespread electric evolution that will wipe out old-technology models.

From drones to boats, industry analysts are expecting that bikes and buses will join the EV evolution that might put a host of technology-powered transport products on roads in 2021.

One example is the wakeboarding towboat that Ingenity Electric and Nautique Boats are working on. The GS22E wakeboarding boat will feature a battery that can run for up to three hours.

It is also expected that e-bikes like Canyon Bicycles GmbH's Precede:ON will be more popular this year. People will be more concerned for their health this year - and the demand for e-biking is expected to increase.

European Rail In The Spotlight

Rail in the European Union is one of the less-used modes of transport despite its small effect on the environment. Rail accounts for 0.5% only of greenhouse gas emissions.

Industry analysts believe rail transport in Europe will increase in 2021 as more people search for sustainable options.

To help drive interest in rail, the European Commission will launch a website offering passengers information on the EU's Single European Railway Area project and other activities throughout the year.

The railway area project is in line with the European Green Deal - which seeks an ambitious 90% reduction in transport-related emissions within the next 30 years.

Pandemic Controlled Air Transport

Experts believe many airlines will still base their protocols on the pandemic and the requirements of world health groups will remain the authority.

While many countries already require air passengers to have a negative COVID-19 test before crossing borders, much talk is about the necessity of vaccine certificates.

Digital health passports are also expected to change the experience of air travelers.

Sea Struggles

Cruise trips and other marine travel are expected to continue to struggle in 2021 owing to persisting uncertainty about government orders.

Some cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean International and Carnival Cruise Line said earlier bookings have increased since the new year. However, bookings don't translate into actual passengers - especially because of ever-changing restrictions.

While some ships have recommenced sails over the past few months, industry analysts believe allowing ships to set sail will still be slow until widespread vaccinations are completed.
