A new iMac with Pro Display XDR design is coming this year, with reports also stating that cheaper external Apple monitors will also be available in 2021.

After publishing details about the 2021 MacBook Pro refresh, Bloomberg reveals in a new report that Apple is also planning to launch its first redesign of the iMac more than eight years later in 2021. The report also stated that the Cupertino tech giant is set to release cheaper external Apple monitors, as well as a new Mac Pro lineup, in the second half of this year.

Bloomberg reveals the new iMac has no "chin area" on its bottom and has smaller bezels that somehow will remind you of the Pro Display XDR design. Instead of the curved design that defines current models, the new iMac features a flat back. Apple also plans to release cheaper external monitors for those who wanted a low-price alternative.

Slimmer And Better

According to the new report of Bloomberg, Apple plans to replace existing 21.5 and 27-inch iMac models with the new and redesigned version "later this year." The new iMac features slimmer black borders around its screen and replaced its sizable metal chin area with a design reminiscent of Apple's Pro Display XDR monitor design. For those who wanted external monitors, Apple is also releasing a cheaper version this year.

Bloomberg also revealed that Apple plans to launch two versions of the new iMac with Pro Display XDR design, codenamed J456 and J457, in the second half of 2021, along with cheaper external monitors. The media outlet declined to disclose their information source as they requested to remain unidentified since Apple did not yet announce the products mentioned. "The iMac redesign will be one of the biggest visual updates to any Apple product this year," the Bloomberg report stated, citing people who are familiar with the roadmap of Apple.

Information Also Subject Of Rumors

Whispered talks in the past indicated Apple is working on a 24-inch iMac, which theoretically serves as the 21.5-inch model's replacement. Bloomberg, in its report about the new iMac with Pro Display XDR design, did not specifically state its screen size. The media outlet only reported that Apple is set to launch two versions that will replace the current 21.5-inch and 27-inch models, and that the Cupertino tech giant will also release cheaper external monitors within the year.

Aside from the new iMac with a design similar to Pro Display XDR monitors, Bloomberg reported that Apple is also planning to release two new Mac Pro versions. One of the versions reportedly has the same design as current Mac Pros while the other is "less than half the size" of present designs. Bloomberg also stated in its report that the smaller version might bring some about some "nostalgia for the Power Mac G4 Cube." The report did not say, however, if the cheaper external monitors that Apple is also set to release this year is intended for this particular Mac model.
