Peaky Blinders season 6 is in production at the moment. The period crime drama has been on hiatus for more than a year and fans are excited to see it coming back on BBC. But, aside from confirming that filming is underway, it was also revealed that the sixth outing will be the final installment for the series.

Peaky Blinders season 6 wasn't able to begin production immediately due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is that cast and crew are back to work and preparing to deliver a lot of interesting stories moving forward. Yet, this also means that the show is coming to an end.

In a statement, series creator Steven Knight confirmed that the story is ending after the sixth installment. But, although the current global health crisis changed some of their plans and pushed back its premiere, he said that it is "back and with a bang."

Knight teased that the family is in "extreme jeopardy" and the stakes have never been higher in Peaky Blinders season 6. Out of all the preceding installments, the series creator noted that the final outing is the "best series of all" and fans will love it.

While it's sad news for fans that it is ending, Knight promised that the series is going to continue "in another form." He made it clear that he wasted to end the show with a movie, which was his plan from the beginning. He, then, that's "what is going to happen."

Nothing is officially confirmed at the moment, but based on Knight's statement, there is a possibility that fans will see more of the family in the future. For now, their top priority is to complete the production of the final installment.

Meanwhile, executive producer Caryn Mandabach has something to say about the series finale. She said that they're working diligently to ensure that everyone is safe while filming. She also thanked all the fans who have been "so unwaveringly supportive and patient."

The fifth installment was the most-watched series ever since it debuted back in 2013. Now, Peaky Blinders season 6 will continue what transpired in the previous season. It'll remain to focus on Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and the rest of the family.

Over the past years, Knight said that he wanted to "rehabilitate" Murphy's character. Originally, the plan was to end the series after season 7. It will kick off with the beginning of WWII so it could be a story "about people between the wars."

Peaky Blinders season 6 official release date hasn't been set at the moment.
