Meghan Markle will not yet see a front-page apology from the Daily Mail and its publisher, Associated Newspapers, after a judge ruled that the defendants of her lawsuit may be given time to appeal the case.

Last month, Judge Mark Warby ruled that the tabloid and its publisher infringed and breached the Duchess of Sussex's privacy. Markle avoided a court trial, however, after she was given a summary judgment.

There were hints that she wasn't planning to fly back to the United States late last year, to be personally present during the trials at the High Court, after the judge moved the trial date to the fall season. It eventually turned out that Markle is pregnant with her second child and is due to give birth in the summer.

But as part of her legal victory, Daily Mail was ordered to run a front-page statement for a week to concede to her win. However, Warby ruled on Monday that the front-age statement can be set aside as the Associated Newspapers pursue the lawsuit in the Court of Appeal. The judge said the law entitles defendants to challenge the earlier ruling.

Meghan Markle sued Associated Newspapers in 2019 after its tabloid published a series of stories pertaining to the duchess' letter to her father, Thomas Markle. The Duchess of Sussex claimed that the tabloid misused private information and also breached the copyright of her personal letter.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan confessed that she felt truly betrayed by Thomas because he released her letter to the media. She repeatedly asked her dad about his dealings with the tabloid press but her own father lied to her and Thomas would have been a witness for the defense in the lawsuit.

However, after the Winfrey interview, Thomas has also been talking to the press to defend himself against his daughter's accusations. He said that he has made apologies to Meghan more than 100 times but his daughter has refused to make contact.

Thomas also said that he's alarmed knowing that his daughter had suicidal thoughts while she was living in Kensington Palace. He said that thought upset him because he would have been there for her but she was the one who ceased communication with her own family. Thomas also said that Harry might have failed to take good care of his daughter if she had all these negative thoughts.

Meghan Markle and Thomas have been estranged after her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. Thomas said that he only lives 70 miles away from the couple but there is no effort at all to see him and introduce him to his grandson. He won't also likely have a relationship with his soon-to-be-born granddaughter.
