The Suicide Squad is going on a different approach to some of its characters once it hits the big screen in the coming months. The Thinker (Peter Capaldi), in particular, won't be the same one that viewers have seen in The CW series, The Flash.

Recently, director James Gunn confirmed that the Thinker is different from the villain Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) has dealt with in the superhero series. In the upcoming The Suicide Squad, the character is a powerful supervillain who can control minds and do telekinesis and was captured by Task Force X.

The Thinker has been used several times on the DC comics, with Clifford DeVoe being the most popular one. First appeared in 1943, this supervillain is the major adversary in The Flash during its fourth outing and he was played by Neil Sandilands.

Initially, fans believed that Capaldi's version is similar to the one in the superhero series. However, Gunn made it clear that the Thinker in the film won't be Clifford DeVoe. The director confirmed to a fan on Twitter that the supervillain is different -- though he didn't reveal the civilian identity.

While there are other incarnations of the character, there is a possibility that there's going to be a new version of the Thinker in The Suicide Squad. This will be similar to Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchoir), Ratcatcher's daughter and a new character made specifically for the new film.

Meanwhile, the poster of the Thinker featured the character surrounded by Starro drones, suggesting that he has ties to the villain. But, while this could indicate where his powers came from, this could also mean that he's going to be a key player in defeating the Starro.

In the trailer of The Suicide Squad, the team is interrogating the Thinker. Also, he is not present at the time when Starro woke up, which could imply that he was killed to double-cross the enemies. For now, the fate of the Thinker is still a mystery, as well as his identity.

In a related report, Gunn confirmed that Taika Waititi won't be voicing Starro. At the moment, there's still a lot of question on what would be the role of the actor in the upcoming film. Fans have to wait and see for the coming months which character he's going to portray.

The Suicide Squad will be released theatrically by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 6, 2021, in the United States. The movie is also available digitally for a month on the streaming platform HBO Max, which will start streaming on the same date.
