Mortal Kombat is an upcoming martial arts fantasy-action movie, which is based on the video game of the same name and serves as a reboot to the first two film series. A new trailer was recently released, bringing a lot of action-packed scenes featuring the classic fighters.

The latest trailer was shared on the official Twitter account of Mortal Kombat. In the clip, the fighters of the Earthrealm are preparing to battle against the Outworld's warriors -- with Cole Young's (Lewis Tan) fight against Goro showed in more detail.

The video also featured Kano's (Josh Lawson) iconic laser eyes, Liu Kang's (Ludi Lin) fire magic, as well as Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) preparing the fighters for the imminent war. Although some scenes have been shown in the previous trailer, the latest one hints at new actions and dialogues.

Jax's (Mechad Brooks) reference to the war also suggests that the reboot takes place in the pivotal tournament -- just like in the original video game and the 1995 movie. The Outworld's warriors need to win 10 straight victories in order to invade the Earthrealm.

As seen in the latest trailer, the threat of invasion is imminent so Cole and the rest of Earthrealm's fighters must be prepared for whatever's coming for them. Everyone focuses on the training for the battles to come, with Raiden serving as their mentor -- which further cements his role in the franchise.

The synopsis of Mortal Kombat reboot notes that a washed-up MMA fighter isn't aware of his hidden lineage and why Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins hunts him down. He seeks out fighters chosen to defend the Earthrealm against Outworld to ensure the safety of his family.

The upcoming movie is directed by Simon McQuoid, marking his feature directorial debut. The script was written by Greg Russo, who announced that the film's script was complete in February 2019. Then, in July 2019, Russo announced the reboot got an R-rating.

McQuoid also serves as executive producer, alongside James Wan, Todd Garner, and E. Bennett Walsh. As for where the Mortal Kombat reboot was filmed, the production took place in Adelaide Studios and other locations in South Australia.

The movie was originally set for a March 2021 release date, but the schedule was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In February 2021, posters of several characters have been unveiled, as well as the first trailer featuring gory actions and iconic fatalities in the video game.

Mortal Kombat will be released on Friday, April 16, on HBO Max.
