A woman carrying a firearm was shot dead at Indonesia's national police headquarters in Jakarta after firing on officers, ABC News reported Thursday.

National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo told a news conference the 25-year-old woman, identified as Zakiah Aini, fired six shots at officers at the building's entrance at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Aini was wearing a face veil and a black gown when she attacked.

"She was a 'lone wolf' who supported the Islamic State ideology and this has been proven by her posts on social media," The Straits Times quoted Prabowo as saying.

Images broadcast by local news media showed the attacker fall to the ground as shots were fired. She was quickly surrounded by police.

The police chief didn't say if officers were hurt. Police headquarters has been a frequent target of Indonesia extremists.

Police said Aini was a university dropout who had left a note at her family's Jakarta home - which was raided after the attack.

The woman also posted a photo of the ISIS flag on her Instagram account hours before the shootout.

A husband and wife died bombing a Catholic church in the South Sulawesi provincial capital Makassar on Palm Sunday injuring 20.

Authorities arrested 23 suspected extremists, including three women, after the Makassar attack.

Terrorism analyst Al Chaidar said the Jakarta attack was likely intended as revenge for a series of arrests of suspected extremists in recent days.
