Queen Elizabeth, allegedly, gave Meghan Markle many options, including carrying on with her acting career, after she married Prince Harry. The monarch didn't force upon the former TV actress to embrace the life of a working royal full time, according to royal biographer Andrew Morton.

The royal expert disclosed in a podcast interview that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were "given a degree of latitude" when they got married. Queen Elizabeth offered a chance for them to pick any country they wanted to serve as the youth ambassadors of the Commonwealth.

Meghan was told she could still fall back on her acting career if she's not up to embracing royal work full time. However, Morton felt that Harry and Meghan didn't give this offer a lot of thought as much as Harry rushed into his marriage with the former TV star.

Harry confirmed in his interview with Oprah Winfrey that there were "red flags" from the beginning when Meghan had to join the Firm. He said difficult conversations were made around their roles as a couple of working royals and someone suggested to them that Meghan should keep her job in Hollywood because the Firm will not be able to pay her as a working royal.

Meghan has been working on U.S. television for a good number of years before she met Harry. She started off as a briefcase girl in the game show, Deal or No Deal, and then landed her most popular role as the paralegal Rachel Zane in the legal series Suits.

She was a part of the show for five years until she met Harry via a blind date arranged by friends in 2016. A year later, the couple got engaged and then got married in May 2018.

Morton said that Prince William advised his brother to take things slowly with his relationship with the American actress. The royal expert believes that William understood life as a working royal better than Harry and was able to set a foundation of this kind of life with his own wife, Kate Middleton.

In January 2020, Harry and Meghan announced that they will be stepping back as working royals. In Sandringham, Queen Elizabeth initiated more talks with her grandson, alongside his father, Prince Charles, and William.

Following that crisis meeting, Queen Elizabeth said that Harry and Meghan can have a year off to plan out their next move while living in California. They could return to their royal roles until then but the couple confirmed in February 2021 that they will be out of the Firm for good.
