Prince Charles appeared to be quite emotional and in tears as he was seen being driven back to his mansion in Berkshire. It's believed that the Prince of Wales came from Windsor Castle to visit his mother, Queen Elizabeth.

According to Daily Express, Charles was spotted wearing a black face mask as his car drove away from Windsor. The cameras caught the royal with his eyes looking rather misty and sad.

Earlier in the day, Prince Charles was with his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, for their first public engagement since the death, as they visited Marlborough House in Central London. The royal couple wanted to see the flowers and cards left behind by sympathizers at the gates of Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and other royal palaces.

Among the mementos left by the people included a mock-up of the Land Rover that Philip designed for his hearse at the funeral. It had "The Duke RIP" on the roof. Several cards with heartfelt message of sympathies were also gathered and filed in order at the steps of the house.

A day before the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, Charles made a statement on video to praise his father, which was posted on all of the royal family's social media pages. He said that his father was a "very special person" who devoted his long life to service for the queen, the country and the royal family.

According to reports, Philip made three requests from his eldest son before he died. Royal sources said that one of these wishes was for Charles to keep a close eye on their mother.

During his hospitalization in February, Philip and Charles had a heartfelt discussion as it was believed the Duke of Edinburgh was quite aware that he will no longer recover from his illness. Apparently, Philip had also asked Charles that he wanted to die in his own bed at Windsor Castle.

Reports cited that the father and son had been in constant communication in the weeks after Philip got out of the hospital and that they last saw each other on April 6. The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on April 9.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles will lead the procession during the funeral for Philip at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. The Prince of Wales will have his sons, his siblings, his brother-in-law and his nephew during the procession while the rest of the royal family will be in a socially-distanced section of the church to watch the procession. The funeral is expected to start at 3:00 p.m. London time, on Saturday, April 17.
