Starz has been expanding the universe of Power franchise, bringing several spin-offs that center on certain characters. The network already brought Power Book II: Ghost to the small screen and was already renewed for season 2. Now, Power Book III: Raising Kanan is set to debut within a few months.

Recently, the official release date of Power Book III: Raising Kanan has been officially revealed. At the same time, Starz also released some photos and the trailer of the upcoming spin-off, which will center on the titular character, played by 50 Cent in the flagship show.

Kanan's life will be explored and it will mostly focus on his younger years. It serves as a prequel to the Power series, which means that Ghost St. Patrick (Omari Harwick) may not be entirely featured here. The story was set in 1991 and took place in South Jamaica Queens.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan is a "sprawling family drama" focusing on the life of Kanan Stark -- Ghost and Tommy Egan's (Joseph Sikora) mentor, partner, and adversary. The character eventually met his demise due to gunfire and it was shown in the flagship show.

In the spin-off, Kanan (Mekai Curtis) is a 15-year-old young boy and the only child of Raquel "Raq" Thomas (Patina Miller). His mother is a cocaine distributor who has connections to other dealers across the city. The theme of the upcoming series revolves around "identity, violence, and legacy."

Aside from these, the spin-off dives deeper into the "pathology of family," showing the dynamics and complications between "parent and child, mother and father, brother and sister." While Kanan's life has ended in the Power series, a lot of things about him remain unknown until now.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan is set during his younger years, which means his backstory will be properly fleshed out. His past is something that wasn't entirely tackled in the flagship show and the spin-off could show more of that, including the people in his life before.

Speaking to Deadline, Power creator Courtney Kemp said that the spin-off will be different from the main series. In addition, 50 Cent, who played the adult version of Kanan, revealed that he created new songs just for the show and the music feels like it was produced in the '90s.

Meanwhile, in addition to Curtis and Miller, Ethan Cutkosky stars as young Tommy, Chris Sumpter as young Jamie, and Camila Perez as young Angie. Other cast members include Malcolm M Mays, Shanley Caswell, Lovie Simone, Natalee Linez, and Toby Sandeman.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan will be premiering on Sunday, July 18, on Starz.
