WARNING: This article may contain some spoilers for the penultimate of Chicago P.D. season 8 finale. Read at your own risk.

Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) finds herself in a dangerous situation in the upcoming Chicago P.D. season 8 episode 16, titled "The Other Side." Her life is clearly on the line and it's yet to be seen whether or not her colleagues will be able to save her.

Chicago P.D. season 8 episode 16 serves as the season finale and it will pick up where the penultimate left off. In episode 15, titled "The Right Thing," the Intelligence conducted a massive raid around Chicago, with Burgess acting as an undercover to locate the suspects alone.

When she arrived in the building, Burgess radioed others but a man showed up and struck her through the window. She was knocked unconscious as he dragged her out of the car. The episode ended with the man standing over Burgess, who is in a bad shape.

In Chicago P.D. season 8 episode 16, Burgess is in grave danger. She's now in the hands of the cold-blooded killers who already murdered three young girls, as well as the son of Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller (Nicole Ari Parker).

There is no official announcement that Squerciati is leaving her role in the series, so Burgess' fate within this episode remains to be seen. The biggest concern, however, is that she seemingly foreshadowed something may happen to her at some point.

It can be recalled that Burgess asked Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) to take care of her foster child if ever she's killed in the line of duty. The speculation about Squerciati's potential exit was further fuelled when the actress posted on her Instagram account, with the caption: "Where's Burgess?"

Although her future is unclear, others will find a way to track down her location -- but they must race against time before it's too late. The Intelligence needs more resources to search where Burgess is, and in the process, they need to take down a dangerous crime ring.

Based on the synopsis of Chicago P.D. season 8 episode 16, "Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and the team muster all their expertise to bring down a deadly crime ring." This is going to be one of their biggest missions, though it's yet to be seen whether this storyline will be wrapped up.

The police procedural didn't have a proper ending in season 7, largely because production was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, the series is likely setting up a massive cliffhanger and more stories will explore in the already-renewed season 9.

Chicago P.D. season 8 episode 16 airs on Wednesday, May 26, on NBC.
