The Chi season 4 premiered on Showtime just recently and it opened with a flash-forward scene, leaving the fate of some characters in question. There are a lot of mysteries surrounding this particular moment, especially after shifting back to the present timeline.

In the first episode of The Chi season 4, titled "Soul Food," the flash-forward featured Kevin (Alex Hibbert) finding out that his best friend, Jake (Michael V. Epps), was making out with his girlfriend, Jemma (Judae'a Brown), which comes as a huge surprise for him.

The scene also saw Keisha (Birgundi Baker), who's about to give birth, choosing to keep her baby. Tiffany (Hannaha Hall) takes over the restaurant of Sonny (Cedric Young), while Emmett (Jacob Latimore) hiding in the bathroom while someone tries to get inside the house.

But, perhaps, the most shocking moment in the flash-forward revolves around Otis "Douda" Perry (Curtiss Cook). The newly-elected Mayor was shot in the chest on the rooftop of a building, and it's yet to be seen the person behind the trigger.

In a recent interview with TVLine, showrunner Justin Hillian talked about the flash-forward scene and how it's going to unfold as the story progresses. When it comes to Douda, he said that the character becomes overconfident and would make mistakes but wouldn't own them up.

However, this will affect his political landscape, as well as certain people around him. Also, Hillian hinted at the potential rift between Kevin and Jake, which is rooted in their police interaction. They will handle things differently and will hugely affect their relationship.

Then, Hillian shared how the flash-forward scene will play out in the series. He revealed that everything that transpired at that moment will be seen in episode 5, and then the story moves forwards. Hence, the next couple of episodes further build-up before it eventually unfold.

Meanwhile, the next episode of The Chi season 4 is titled "Cooley High" and it'll be the continuation of the premiere episode. Based on the synopsis, Emmett comes clean and admits his wrongdoings to Tiff. Douda will be making a huge decision that could change the face of Chicago.

Kevin and Jake, on the other hand, go on a college tour and they ended up reconsidering their future. Jada (Yolanda Ross) receives unexpected news, while Papa (Shamon Brown Jr.) decided to start his podcast. Lastly, Trigg (Luke James) will be reuniting with an old friend.

The Chi season 4 is airing its new episodes every Sunday night at 9/8 Central on Showtime.
