Anime and manga fans alike will be getting their greatest gift this Christmas after "Jujutsu Kaisen" officially announced its movie release at Juju Fes 2021 Sunday. The announcement comes with a new visual featuring Rika and Yuta.
Titled "Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie," the film may be quite different from what fans expect. Instead of Yuji, it will focus more on the story of Yuta Okkotsu and the curse that continuously haunts him.
The graphic shows Rika on the left, holding Yuta's hand, who is standing on the right while looking at her. With a sword in hand, they seem to be ready to face the monstrous cursed spirit in front of them.
The key art also bears the words, "the starting point of 'Jujutsu Kaisen' and a story of love and curses," Otakumode noted.

"Yuta Okkotsu is a nervous high school student who is suffering from a serious problem - his childhood friend Rika has turned into a Curse and won't leave him alone," the official synopsis read, via Comicbook. "Since Rika is no ordinary Curse, his plight is noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school where fledgling exorcists learn how to combat Curses.
Knowing Gojo is a superior grade Jujutsu sorcerer and a teacher at Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College, he will try to convince Yuta to enroll and learn more about the curses. However, it remains to be seen if he can learn just in time before it is too late to confront his own curse.
"Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie" will be based on the manga's four-chapter prequel series, called Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. This story is also part of the volume "Jujutsu Kaisen 0."
The original manga series, created by Gege Akutami, follows the story of Yuji, a high school student who has incredible athletic talent but joins the Occult Research Club. He then accidentally swallows the unsealed cursed talisman, making him the host of it.
He will carry this curse for the rest of his life and he can only get rid of it if he can kill it, along with himself.
Once again, fans will see the perfect take of MAPPA as it returns to produce "Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie," per Crunchyroll. Toho animation will be distributing the film in Japanese theaters when it releases Dec. 24. It will be the greatest gift this Christmas for fans, especially after the news that Akutami will be taking a one-month break.
Alternatively, the first-ever "Jujutsu Kaisen" movie may hit international theaters sometime in 2022.
