American doughnut company Krispy Kreme is doubling down on its free doughnuts promo for vaccinated customers. The company announced Wednesday that it will be giving everyone who can present proof of vaccination two free doughnuts starting on Aug. 30.

The company said the promo will only last until Sept. 5. The announcement comes a few days after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued its approval of Pfizer's vaccine.

Krispy Kreme originally announced its free doughnuts for vaccinated people in March. The promo gave vaccinated individuals a free doughnut each day for the rest of the year.

According to the company, it has already given away more than 2.5 million doughnuts since the launch of the promotion. It added that it had also given away more than 30 million free doughnuts to health care workers, graduating seniors, and teachers through its other promotions last year.

For the latest promotion, the company has created a special heart-shaped doughnut that will be paired with a traditional glazed doughnut.

Krispy Kreme's Chief Marketing Officer Dave Skena said they hadn't expected the pandemic to last for this long, which is why they had decided to double down on their promo. Skena said in a press release that the promo was the company's way of thanking those who had gotten vaccinated.

"Please consider getting vaccinated if you've not done so already. And then enjoy and share two amazing doughnuts with our heartfelt thanks," Skena said.

The company said the single free doughnut per day to vaccinated individuals will continue until the end of the year. To get a free doughnut, or two doughnuts until September, customers need only to show their vaccination cards at any of the company's outlets nationwide. Krispy Kreme said individuals who had received at least one shot of Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson's vaccine are eligible.

Aside from Krispy Kreme, several other local businesses and even local governments are offering incentives and other freebies to encourage people to get vaccinated. Uber and Lyft are currently offering free rides to vaccinations centers, while some states are giving away free money to those who can present proof of vaccination.
