After gunshots erupted early Sunday morning at a Halloween party in Illinois, two individuals were left lifeless and four others were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The Will County Illinois Sheriff's Office disclosed that at least a dozen people were shot at the party on Jackson Street in Joliet Township. The incident happened in the backyard of a home where 200 people had gathered to celebrate Halloween.

Based on initial findings by investigators, the fatal shooting occurred outside the property, near a DJ booth set up in the backyard.

The sheriff's office said gunshots were fired "from an elevated location on a porch looking down over the gathering."

"Everyone was having a good time, and then shots started going off from the porch as we were dancing on the back patio," a witness told ABC's Chicago station, WLS.

A nearby patrol officer responded to the gunfire, and more officers and first responders came shortly after, the sheriff's office said.

As the first responders were helping the victims, they heard more gunfire in the neighborhood, police said.

The two dead victims, who have not been recognized yet, perished at the scene, authorities added.

In other news, a suspect was apprehended Sunday in another shooting incident at a Halloween party in eastern Texas that left one person dead and nine others injured, authorities said.

The Texarkana, Texas police said the suspected gunman, 21-year-old Keuntae McElroy, of Texarkana, Arkansas, surrendered late Sunday morning.

Authorities said McElroy was booked into jail on one count of felony aggravated assault and other charges are expected to be handed on Monday.

At least 200 people were at the party at an event center late Saturday when shots were heard, authorities said.

The 10 people who were shot were sent to two hospitals for emergency treatment by ambulance, or private vehicle.

At a hospital, a 20-year-old male was pronounced dead. His identity is yet to be revealed. The remaining nine victims' injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Authorities had issued an arrest warrant for McElroy and were hunting for him, contacting his family and acquaintances, before he turned himself in.
