After three days of being offline, video game creation platform Roblox is finally back online. The outage of the popular gaming site caused some panic, particularly with parents who rarely see their children play outside.
Over the weekend, children that were used to spending their time playing the game were forced to search for other sources of entertainment. Some parents noted on social media that they were shocked to find their children walking around the house or playing outside.
Roblox is wildly popular among children, particularly those aged between nine and 12 years old. The site went down late Thursday and has been unavailable for much of the weekend. Users who attempted to log on to the site during the weekend were met with a "Be back soon" message.
On Sunday, Roblox announced on social media that it was able to find the root cause of the problem and that it was now working to implement a solution to restore the platform. Hours later, the company confirmed that it was able to fix the issue and it is now back online.
The online platform allows users to create games and explore games developed by other users. The platform attracts an estimated 43 million players each day. Apart from playing games, users on the platform can also attend virtual events and mingle with others in digitally developed spaces.
During the outage, social media was flooded with stories from frustrated parents who could not explain to their children why the site was down.
"My goddaughter outside playing with a soccer ball had me thinking the world was ending. Turns out Roblox down," one parent posted on social media.
Roblox did not detail the issue that caused the outage but the company did shoot down rumors that the problems may have stemmed from the Chipotle promotion that was launched before everything went offline. As part of the promotion, Roblox was giving away $1 million worth of free burritos as part of a Halloween event within the game.
The company confirmed that the outage was not caused by "any specific experience or partnerships on the platform." Roblox also denied reports indicating that the outage may have been caused by a cyberattack.
