Lee Jin-ho has made a controversial claim about the real reason why 2NE1 had disbanded on his YouTube channel. The YouTuber alleged one member of the group was behind the break-up.
The reporter posted a clip on Dec. 17, titled "Found out from a news article? The truth behind 2NE1's disbandment." He addressed CL's claim that she learned of the disbandment through a news article.
The girl group's instability is said to have started in 2014, AllKpop noted. At the time, it was revealed Park Bom was trying to smuggle drugs in the country back in 2010 and from here, much controversy surrounded the girls.
There were rumors YG Entertainment had something to do with Park Bom's non-prosecution. Then, the company's drug scandal broke out soon after, which worsened the matters. A conflict began to arise between the agency and some members as they discussed the contract renewal in 2016.
Lee Jin-ho claimed it resulted in Minzy's departure due to alleged "dissatisfaction." Despite her exit, YG, Park Bom, Dara and CL started working on their comeback album, but the unruly actions of one unnamed member made it hard.
As this member continued to deviate from the agency'r rules, the company eventually gave up on her. The comeback album was ultimately canceled and ended with 2NE1's disbandment.
Park Bom followed Minzy and left the agency, leaving Dara and CL behind. So, when Yang Hyun-suk posted something about the recording on social media, CL commented, "What about me?" and used the hashtag, #Pleasereplytomytextmessage.
The conflict between the company and the two remaining members grew that CL officially left in 2019. This may contradict the 30-year-old rapper's claim that she just heard the news about her group's disbandment through the media, per KBIZoom.
CL revealed she was not informed in advance about the disband and told AP Entertainment that just like Minzy, she learned her group had broken up through the media. At the time, she was having a thanksgiving dinner when her phone started ringing loud, calling it a "heartbreaking" situation.
Anyhow, CL tried to see the positive in this situation, seeing she now had more freedom and could choose what she wanted to do. "I think it's a very exciting new chapter in my life," she said. True to her words, CL is actively participating in the music scene today and can often be seen here and there.
