Meghan Markle and Prince Harry flew to Canada in late 2019. It was the time when they were having their break from royal duties, and were set to celebrate the holiday season outside the United Kingdom for the first time.

Amid their stay, they reportedly planned to eat at a local restaurant, Deep Cove Chalet. However, the owners of the upmarket seafood eatery, which boasts "magnificent waterfront views," rejected the couple's request to dine in, according to Express UK.

The publication unearthed the accounts of what happened at that time. As reported, Bev and Pierre Koffel "turned down" the Sussex pair due to security concerns.

Speaking to local newspapers, the restaurant owners explained why they had to deny Meghan Markle and Prince Harry seats at their eatery. It was said that they could not accommodate the couple because they do not have a room for them.

Even so, they would reportedly be "more than happy" to have the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in their family restaurant. They, also, seemingly looked at the possibility of accommodating the couple in the future.

In the end, the owners wished them well, and hoped that everything would go fine for them. They even appeared to have urged the public to let the then-working royals have their "peace and quiet."

Despite what happened, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry seemingly enjoyed their stay in Canada. Buckingham Palace even released an official statement about the Sussex family's Christmas celebration in the country, according to Elle.

As revealed, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were "enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people," as well as the "beauty of the landscape" in the area.

They, also, received greetings from the country's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, on social media. He wished the couple, alongside their son, a "quiet and blessed stay in Canada," adding that they "were among friends."

The following year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry did not, once again, celebrate the holiday season with the rest of the British Royal Family. Apart from their exit from the monarchy, there was, also, the COVID-19 crisis.

As for this year's Christmas, it remains unknown where the family will mark the festive season. But, it appears that they will not return to the United Kingdom, and will reportedly likely stay in their new home in the United States.

Meanwhile, it is believed that the rest of the British Royal Family will celebrate this year's holiday season together in Windsor. It will be the first for the clan without Prince Philip.
