Block B's U-Kwon and Jeon Sun Hye shook the four corners of the Korean entertainment world with the announcement of their breakup. The two are celebrating their 10 years together this year, so what went wrong?
Jeon Sun Hye announced the sad news on Instagram on May 1. Though she did not give any reason for their breakup, she revealed they were both doing fine.
AllKpop noted the model captioned her update with a statement, saying she would delete her post after a day. She then revealed she had been receiving DMs from different people checking her Instagram Story.
Many seemed worried about her post, so she decided to finally speak up. "So, I'll speak carefully to put an end to their concerns," she said.
She then revealed she and U-Kwon were "currently living comfortably as friends, not lovers." This just meant they were no longer together.
She thanked everyone for their support when they were still together. "Good job today," she concluded.
U-Kwon, alternatively, is yet to issue a statement about it. For starters, the two went public with their romance in 2012 through an announcement on Block B's fan café.
Since then, he has been open to talking about their romance in the media. In fact, he even discussed the possibility of getting married to Jeon Sun Hye.
In an episode of "Video Star" in June 2019, U-Kwon talked about going public with his then-girlfriend. He was only 21 at the time and called himself either "innocent or dumb."
However, he had no regrets. Although there were initial hesitations, he found the courage to go public and let his fans know.
After unveiling his then-new romance, he revealed the big controversy that went through without discussing it with either his fellow Block B members or their music label. Despite that, he still told everyone to "date as much" as they wanted.
U-Kwon also said that he would marry his girlfriend before he enlisted in the military. However, with the change of law, he was confused if he would continue with his plan or do it after his discharge, which happened in November 2021.
In a video message, he said he had a lot of things to be sorry about for the past eight years and would continuously feel apologetic because of the military issues. However, U-Kwon asked Jeon Sun Hye to trust him and watch him do his best so that they would stick together.
