Fans seem to have mixed feelings about BLACKPINK's Jennie's part in the new HBO series "The Idol." Though many celebrate the news, some show concern about the show's effect on the K-pop star's young fans, seeing the series' sexy theme.

Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye officially dropped "The Idol" trailer at his concert on Saturday, July 16. There, fans saw a glimpse of Jennie, playing the role of Lily-Rose Depp's backup dancer.

The said TV series is the collaborative project of The Weeknd and the "Euphoria" creator Sam Levinson. It will have the "Blinding Lights" hitmaker and Johnny Depp's daughter as the main leads, AllKpop noted.

It will be set against the backdrop of the music industry, focusing on The Weeknd's character, a self-help guru and a leader of a modern-day cult. He will have a complicated relationship with the rising pop idol, played by Lily-Rose Depp.

Fans quickly noticed Jennie's parts in the trailer. In one scene, she was seen dancing in a club, making a hand gesture with the so-called cult.

She, too, danced as the lead female character's backup dancer in another sequence. The preview also revealed that "The Idol" would be about the "sleaziest love story," making fans concerned about the show's adult nature and thinking it would be too explicit for Jennie's young fans. However, others praised the K-pop idol for trying something new outside of her music career in K-pop.

Meanwhile, rumors about Jennie and The Weeknd's collaboration have been rampant since the two met in Los Angeles in November. Times Now News revealed that Jennie was offered a role in the new series, created by The Weeknd and Levinson, last month.

However, YG Entertainment has yet to comment on the issue as of this writing. Aside from the said stars, Troye Sivan, Steve Zissis and Juliebeth Gonzales will also be part of "The Idol."

In other news, BLACKPINK is now gearing up for their imminent comeback in August. YG Entertainment confirmed the news in a statement earlier this month. They're currently reportedly working on their full album and preparing to begin the production of their new music video, per Harper's Bazaar.

"A lot of music that is BLACKPINK-esque has been completed with much effort over a long period of time," the statement reads. So, to expand the girl group's connection with their fans all over the world, they're also set to hold the largest-scale world tour in K-pop girl group history until the end of the year. There will also be big projects coming their way.
