Prince Harry's relationship with the royal family has remained icy cold since he and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in 2020. Although the Sussexes have said a lot of things against the royal family, Queen Elizabeth II reportedly found comfort in the Duke of Sussex's recent trips to the U.K. when she was still alive.

The late monarch was comforted by the fact that Prince Harry tried to mend his relationship with the royal family before she died. This could even be seen when he and his wife, Meghan Markle, joined Prince William and Kate Middleton in a walkabout after their grandmother's death.

Royal author Robert Hardman told Palace Confidential, via Express, that the direction of the father of two's travels to the U.K. was "toward some sort of rapprochement" through the year. Though he didn't attend Prince Philip's memorial service, he visited his grandmother while on his way to his Invictus Games.

Of course, he saw Her Majesty back then, and he and his former actress wife even joined her during the celebrations of her Platinum Jubilee in June, along with their two kids, Archie and Lilibet. Hardman added the family's icy relationship was gradually thawing through the year.

Though a complete reunion is yet to happen, the royal expert believes the general path of Prince Harry's relationship with the royal family is already on its way to reconciliation. Hence, Queen Elizabeth would have found it comforting and would surely like it.

Meanwhile, the controversial royals remained in the U.K. for the Queen's state funeral after she died in September. The two stepped out with the royal family a few times during the burial, starting with a surprise walkabout with Prince William and Kate Middleton outside Windsor Castle.

All dressed in black, the former Fab Four greeted the mourners as they paid their last respect to the monarch. They also checked the flood of tributes the public gave.

Kensington Palace revealed, via People, that Prince William invited Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to join him and his wife, Kate Middleton, at the Windsor gates. On the other hand, a source claimed that the security was surprised by their walkabout and didn't expect they would do it together.

Another insider told the publication that the heir apparent reportedly saw the importance of the moment to show unity at an incredibly difficult time for the family. From there, a lot of people started to think that there would be a reconciliation between the feuding Prince William and Prince Harry.
