Stephen "tWitch" Boss' cause of death has been revealed and ruled out as a suicide. The longtime DJ of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" reportedly had a gunshot wound to the head. He was 40.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported there were "no signs of foul play" at the event. Hence, the case of Boss' death has been officially closed.
Page Six reported that the freestyle hip-hop dancer was found inside the bathroom of his hotel room at Oak Tree Inn in Encino, California, on Tuesday, December 13. The place was just a 14-minute walk away from his home.
The motel reportedly called the West Valley Division, and the officers responded around 11:20 a.m. The staff told TMZ that the deceased didn't look upset when he arrived with a small overnight bag from the previous night, showing no signs of a tragic event coming.
Alternatively, Boss' wife, Allison Hoker, also called the police the same morning after noticing he left without using his car, which was very unlikely for him to do so. She later announced the sad news about his death in a statement to People.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us," she said. She continued honoring her husband, revealing he had the most uplifting spirit despite his internal struggles.
Hoker added that the choreographer was their family's backbone, describing him as the best husband and father who had inspired his fans. She also praised his positive impact and legacy that she and their three kids, Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia, would "forever hold on to."
Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres, who had worked with Boss for eight years, broke her silence about his surprising death and paid her respects to her longtime friend and collaborator. In a heartfelt message shared on her socials Wednesday, December 14, the host revealed she was heartbroken when she heard the news.
She called Boss by his nickname, tWitch, and described him as "pure love and light." The comedian called him her family, whom she had loved with all her heart.
"I will miss him," she continued. In the post, she included a photo of them together, sweetly hugging each other.
Boss served as the talk show's producer and in-house DJ. With his charm, he quickly became a fan favorite and a full-time fixture on the show when he started in 2014.
He even hosted the program when DeGeneres wasn't around. Boss and DeGeneres also worked together on the variety game show "Ellen's Game of Games."
