A video of Seth Rogen revealing he had refused Tom Cruise's invite to join Scientology recently resurfaced after Jerrod Carmichael made fun of the A-list actor's religion at the Golden Globes 2023. By the looks of it, he got Judd Apatow's help as the latter effortlessly dodged Katie Holmes' ex's attempt.

Rogen made the revelation in an interview with Howard Stern on "SiriusXM" in 2021. So, what happened when Cruise tried to recruit them to Scientology?

The filmmaker said that the "Top Gun" star told him that if he would only let him tell him what the church was really about and gave him 20 minutes to explain, he cut him and told him, "No f-king way! No f-king way!'" per Page Six.

However, he later thought of his wording, thinking if it were a good thing to say. The 40-year-old continued that he was with Apatow when the meeting with the "Mission: Impossible" actor was held, and they ended up looking at each other when Cruise made the invite.

Rogen admitted that they both wondered if they were strong enough to come out of the meeting without being converted to Scientology.

"I don't know if I am - I'm generally a weak-willed, weak-minded person - I would assume on the grand scale of people," the produced continued. He even thought that if the movement managed to convince the likes of Cruise, he asked what chance he had to say no.

Thankfully, Appatow saved themselves when he effortlessly took Cruise's invitation down, saying they were good and asking him to just talk about the movies and stuff. "Dodged that bullet," Rogen added.

Meanwhile, Carmichael surprised everyone when he quipped about Scientology, Cruise, and the mysterious wife, Shelly Miscavige, of the religion's head, who has been missing since 2007, during his Golden Globes 2023 hosting stint on Tuesday, January 10.

While holding three Golden Globe Award trophies, the comedian referenced the 2021 incident when Cruise returned his awards after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association dealt with the membership scandal. He said he found the awards Cruise returned backstage and thought they could be exchanged for the safe return of Shelly.

The audience seemed stunned, unleashing audible gasps as he talked about the wife of the Scientology leader, David Miscavige. Shelly was last seen in public in 2007, and many wondered where she is now.

Cruise has been a longtime member of Scientology, which has been criticized and likened to a cult.
