Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has made at least two big donations to aid victims of last week's deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Throughout the past week, the co-founder of Ethereum has actively donated Ethereum to fund relief efforts in Turkey. According to blockchain security firm PeckShield, his most recent donation to Anka Relief was 50 ETH, or around $75,000, given on Feb. 12.

Anka praised the co-founder of Ethereum for his generosity and reported that crypto donations had been pouring in from day one.

"Since day 1 of the disaster, we witnessed donations piling in the wallets of a handful of major NGOs. Great that they have attracted and will be attracting more funds," the organization said.

Buterin's most recent contribution adds to the 99 ETH he previously contributed to aid disaster victims. The vitalik.eth address transmitted around $150,000 worth of ETH to Ahbap on February 11. Ahbap is a non-governmental and non-profit organization in Turkey that is dedicated to relief activities.

It says to have collected $4.3 million in crypto donations to date, with stablecoins constituting the majority of tokens submitted. At the time of writing, the Ahbap wallet contains 409 ETH worth $622,000, according to Etherscan.

The Financial Times reported late last week that donations in cryptocurrencies were coming in from around the world. More than $10 million in cryptocurrency had been donated by businesses, with Binance alone providing $5 million to fund Turkish rescue efforts.

Last week, Binance also announced $100 BNB airdrops to the hardest-hit regions.

The Turkey-Syria 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred on Feb. 6. Its death toll has increased to 33,000, making it one of the world's worst in recent decades.

A day after the terrible earthquake, the Web3 community collaborated to organize crypto donations for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and aid.

Anka supplied a list of crypto wallets that can be used for donations. The Web3 humanitarian support organization has also sponsored the Ukraine DAO initiative to solicit bitcoin donations to fund efforts in the besieged country.

Additionally, Ahbap has provided a number of cryptocurrency addresses for the various tokens it accepts as donations.

It is not the first time that cryptocurrencies have been utilized for earthquake relief. In 2015, in response to the devastating earthquake in Nepal, Bitcoin donations were sent to relief organizations.
