According to Bower, not only did Diana's family - including Earl Charles Spencer, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Baroness Jane Fellowes - fail to see the similarities between Meghan and their late sister, but they also expressed concerns about Meghan's fit within the royal establishment.

The royal biographer mentioned that Harry was "disappointed" when his family and close friends did not see Meghan in the same light as Diana. Bower wrote, "No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend. More discomforting for him, they thought Meghan would not fit in with the royal family."
