In a recent revelation, Prince Harry's apparent desire to reclaim his former life in the UK has reportedly caused tension between him and his wife, Meghan Markle. Sources close to the couple suggest that the Duke of Sussex's longing for his old friendships and life in Britain is at odds with Meghan's vision for their future.
The Sussexes, who made headlines in 2020 with their decision to step back from royal duties, seem to have divergent views on their path forward. Entertainment expert Mark Boardman shed light on the situation, noting a significant shift in Prince Harry's social dynamics over the past decade. "He appears to have distanced himself from his college friends and lacks a permanent UK residence," Boardman told OK! magazine. He added that during Harry's sporadic visits to London, the prince typically opts for hotel stays and keeps a low profile, avoiding public appearances. However, Boardman emphasized, "Undoubtedly, Prince Harry longs for his old friendships."
While Harry's inclination might be to reconnect with his estranged friends in the UK, Meghan reportedly wishes for him to leave that chapter behind. Boardman continued, "Meghan is frustrated that Harry wants his old life back." He elaborated that while Meghan deeply loves Harry, she envisions a different role for him, one that aligns with their joint projects and future endeavors. The public, too, seems eager to see a transformed Harry, rather than a return to his previous partying lifestyle, which could attract unwanted media scrutiny.
Boardman further highlighted that Harry's yearning to return to the UK stems from his deep-rooted relationships with childhood friends. However, convincing Meghan of the need for a "boys' weekend in London" with his old Eton buddies might prove challenging. "He's young at heart but he's got someone to keep him in check and remind him who he is and what he's supposed to be doing," Boardman remarked.
The expert also touched upon Harry's apparent wish for a residence in London, preferably within royal precincts, be it in Windsor or even an apartment in Buckingham Palace. However, he was skeptical about such a prospect materializing. Boardman pointed out, "London is where all of Harry's real friends are. Everyone they know in Hollywood, they aren't his friends." He concluded by emphasizing Meghan's desire for Harry to stand by her, support their family, and focus on their shared future, without any distractions from the past.
The couple's representatives have yet to comment on these speculations.
