The sudden death of "Friends" star Matthew Perry has raised questions, with his ex-girlfriend Kayti Edwards suggesting that an overdose on painkillers may have led to his tragic drowning at his Los Angeles home.
Edwards, who dated Perry in 2006 and later worked as his assistant in 2011, shared her suspicions with The Sun. "There are a lot of things that aren't adding up for me. I don't believe he just drowned in his Jacuzzi, that doesn't sound right," she stated.
Edwards implied that Perry, known for his battles with addiction, might have relapsed in the days leading to his death. "I think he might have taken pills in the week leading up to this," she said, adding, "He was paranoid and would take them all, so there wasn't any evidence, and then go out for more when he was ready to."
The police, responding to the scene, found no illegal drugs in Perry's home. However, they discovered prescription medications for depression, anxiety, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Despite these findings, a friend of Perry claimed he appeared "100 per cent sober" and "extremely positive" a day before his demise. Edwards, however, highlighted concerning behaviors in Perry's final Instagram post, where he referred to himself as "Mattman," a persona she associates with his non-sober phases.
Reflecting on her time with Perry, Edwards recounted an incident where she found him naked and high in a neighbor's pool, underscoring his affinity for water during his drug-using phases. "He always wanted to be in the pool or the Jacuzzi," she recalled.
Edwards, who last spoke to Perry in 2022 following the release of his memoir, expressed regret over not having the chance to say a proper goodbye. Her revelations add a layer of complexity to the narrative surrounding Perry's untimely death, painting a picture of a man struggling with inner demons.
The circumstances of Matthew Perry's death remain a topic of speculation and sorrow, especially among those who knew him closely. Edwards' account, while unverified, offers a glimpse into the troubled life of a beloved TV star, whose struggles with addiction were often hidden behind the screen of celebrity.
