Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the royal family in 2020, but experts believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hope to rejoin the monarchy despite publicly complaining about it.

“Both Meghan and Harry still hope that at some point they might be asked back to become working royals on their own terms — it’s a rapidly shrinking possibility, but the couple have talked about this at length and the fact that senior royal numbers are seriously down at the moment has rekindled their hopes,” royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror.

“As I understand it from palace contacts, they are kidding themselves if they think they will be invited back in any way," he added.

Prince Harry appears to be on good terms with his father, King Charles, but the ice hasn't thawed in his relationship with Prince William, so it's unlikely he'll return to royal duties.

Prince Harry will return to England in a few months to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Invictus Games, and Meghan Markle may reportedly accompany him. However, the Duchess of Sussex is said to be “very anxious” about her impending return to British soil.

“The dates and details are being kept very hush-hush. Both Harry and Meghan are listed as guests and a speech has been scheduled, but there is still a question mark over whether Meghan will make an appearance. Her name has been pencilled in as a TBC,” an unnamed insider told Express UK.

Should Meghan join Prince Harry, there is a huge possibility that the couple might bring their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who have not seen their King Charles and Queen Camilla in a minute.

“Charles and Camilla have very good relationships with their other grandchildren, and everyone is keen for them to have a stronger bond with Archie and Lily. Both Harry and Meghan are keen for the children to become closer with Harry’s family, but she’s very anxious about returning to England,” the same source furthered.

According to the publication, this trip could be a good starting point for the Sussexes to repair relations with both the royal family and the British people. However, the children's attendance is still uncertain because they will only visit the U.K. if their mother, Meghan, agrees. Prince Harry hopes they will join him so they can all enjoy the service and catch up with his family members while there.

After relocating to Montecito, California, King Charles ascended the throne and was later diagnosed with cancer. As the king focuses on his treatment and Kate Middleton begins chemotherapy, royal observers begin to recognize the value the Sussexes brought to the family.

“This is a dread situation, a major operation followed by cancer,” Richard Fitzwilliams told The New York Post. “There is always sometimes in the most awful and serious thing sometimes opportunities come as well . . . one must hope there is as much positivity as possible that’s what she is spreading with the message like that.”

“This is also an opportunity for the trolls and the evil people spreading malicious rumors to be silenced,” Fitzwilliams added.

Princess Kate is dealing with a similar health issue as King Charles is. "I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you personally for all the wonderful messages of support and understanding whilst I've been recovering from surgery," she shared in an Instagram video on Friday, March 22.

"It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family. In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London. At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised I should undergo preventive chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” the Princess of Wales continued.

"This of course comes as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this for our young family. It has taken my time for me to recover from my surgery. Most importantly, it has taken us time to explain to George, Charlotte and Louis and to reassure them I am going to be OK. As I've said to them, I am well,” the wife of Prince William added.

“Having William by my side is a great source of comfort, and the love and support and kindness that has been shown from so many of you. As a family, we need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy. I must focus on making a full recovery. At this time, I am also thinking of those whose lives have been affected by cancer. Please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone,” the Princess of Wales furthered.

Prince Harry and Meghan have expressed their condolences to Princess Kate following her cancer diagnosis. “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said.

Harper’s Bazaar has also learned that Prince Harry and Meghan contacted the Prince and Princess of Wales privately after learning of Princess Kate’s diagnosis.
