Prince William, 41, and Princess Kate, 42, are planning extensive improvements to their Windsor property, Adelaide Cottage, a new report claimed. The renovation is intended to better accommodate their children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, who turns 6 this week.

The Prince and Princess of Wales decided to relocate to Adelaide Cottage from Kensington Palace in London since it is close to their children's school. It was constructed in 1831 for Queen Adelaide.

“They absolutely adore Adelaide Cottage, but it only just fits the entire family, whereas Anmer Hall is much larger with extensive grounds. Adelaide Cottage is being used as a term-time property while the children are at school nearby, while Anmer Hall is for long weekends and holidays,” a tipster suggested.

Prince William and Princess Kate reportedly intend to renovate a decaying redbrick annexe on the property into a hideaway for family and employees.

“It’s currently uninhabitable and needs extensive renovation works. Discussions have been ongoing for a while about using the property as part of the overall cottage grounds, but it’s just about finding the right time to kick the project off,” the informant explained to New Idea Magazine.

While the Waleses are currently focused on Princess Kate's health as she gets preventative chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis, sources claim the project could help the princess recover.

Not only will the extra space offer her with a private refuge to use while she recovers, but sources say the renovations have given Kate something fun to focus on.

Princess Kate was also said to have been heavily involved in the renovations to their Kensington Palace house in 2013, directing most of the interior design herself. She was even seen visiting a few homewares and furniture stores at the time, so she is undoubtedly eager to get involved again and put her own stamp on the family home.

“Instead of hiring a royal interior designer, she wants to furnish it in her own style, because she wants this to be her own family home,” an unnamed informant told PEOPLE Magazine.

The proprietor of an oriental-rugs company in Henley-on-Thames told the entertainment news outlet that Princess Kate visited his store in January 2014 and acquired six Turkish kilims, or flat tapestry woven carpets, for the home's bedrooms. The owner stated that she arrived at the store with precise stock numbers in hand after conducting online research ahead of time.

He stated that Princess Kate understood precisely what she wanted to look at after visiting my website, and that the mother of three is very hands-on and down-to-earth, assisting in the dissemination of information. She allegedly truly wants to get involved.
