Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's marriage has hit a rough patch, with the couple reportedly "taking space from each other" after months of ongoing issues, according to an insider who recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight. The source revealed that the pair, who wed in 2022, have been "having issues for a few months and trying to figure things out on their own."
As rumors of a potential divorce began to circulate earlier this month, following a 47-day period during which the couple had not been publicly spotted together, sources close to Lopez and Affleck are now weighing in on the state of their relationship. Us Weekly reported on Tuesday that the "Let's Get Loud" hitmaker, 54, and the Oscar winner, 51, are on "two completely different pages most of the time," and that their "honeymoon phase has worn off."
One insider told the outlet that Affleck "doesn't agree with Jennifer's lifestyle" and feels "worn down" by the marriage, adding that the father of three has been "checked out." The source also noted that both Lopez and Affleck have demanding careers that often require them to be in different cities, which has "highlighted the emotional and physical distance between them."
Lopez, who has been busy with a whirlwind press tour for her latest movie, the Netflix sci-fi action flick "Atlas," is reportedly coping with their marital issues by focusing on her career. "Jen has been having a hard time dealing with the general stress of life as well as in her career," the Entertainment Tonight source said. "She has been experiencing ups and downs while processing everything. She has been throwing herself into work, which has always been an outlet for her to stay busy and distracted."
The couple's differing approaches to conflict have also contributed to the strain on their marriage, with insiders claiming that "over time, Jennifer and Ben found it increasingly difficult to communicate effectively, and small misunderstandings grew into significant arguments." Additionally, sources suggest that the pair have different approaches to parenting and finances, which has subsequently "exacerbated" their marital woes.
Despite the ongoing split rumors, Lopez and Affleck were seen together for the first time in over a month on May 19, where they joined their kids and Affleck's ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, for a film event in Los Angeles. Another source previously told Entertainment Tonight that the couple is simply facing "normal problems" and that "nothing scandalous is going on."
"Ben feels like Jen has a hard time feeling satisfied, and that's one of the issues they're facing. Ben is one of the only people who feels comfortable enough to be honest and real with Jen. It's part of why Jen loves him, but also why she's upset with him," the insider explained. "She tries to play it off like she doesn't care what the public thinks about her, but she loves her fans so much, so their feedback does impact her."
The couple's love story spans back to 2002 when they began dating, with the pair getting engaged later that year. However, they parted ways in 2004 after postponing their wedding the year before. Lopez and Affleck ultimately reconnected in 2021 and tied the knot the following year.
