When George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin married the wedding in 2014, they made a solemn promise to each other from the beginning of their marriage. George explained that in order to accommodate their hectic schedules, they have agreed that they cannot be more than a week apart from one another. That has turned out to be a really good plan so far. However, throughout the course of the last few years, it has reportedly become increasingly challenging to adhere to.
“They are both hardcore workaholics, so it’s like they’re in their own little bubble,” an unnamed source told In Touch Weekly, adding that George will soon be moving to New York City for around one year in order to pursue a career in Broadway. This will be a significant distance from his and Amal's Lake Como residence, where they spend the most of their time together as a family.
The couple, who will celebrate ten years of marriage in September, are beginning to show signs of strain as a result of the pressure they are under. “They are in two very different worlds 90 percent of the day. They’re leading separate lives,” the insider shared.
In his entire life, George has emphasized that his family comes first. “I don’t have to act. My wife and I had this conversation when I turned 60. I said, ‘We both love what we do. But we gotta make sure we don’t book ourselves silly,” the Oscar winner explained in 2021.
Since then, however, George, who is now 63 years old, has arguably done exactly that. In addition to producing projects behind the scenes, he has directed “The Boys in the Boat,” filmed “Wolfs” in New York City with his longtime buddy Brad Pitt, and started filming another feature with Adam Sandler in Italy early this year, as per GQ UK.
“George runs his filmmaking operation — from directing and producing to taking acting roles in other people’s projects — like a military general. He’s a perfectionist and demands perfection from everybody who steps up to work with him. So you know he’s not doing it for the money. He truly enjoys it and is extremely hands-on,” the insider shared, noting that since he and two friends, Rande Gerber and Michael Meldman, sold off their tequila company, Casamigos, in 2017 for a total of one billion dollars, it has only become "more extreme."
The same can be said about his wife. The tipster claimed that Amal, who is 46 years old and works as a human rights lawyer, frequently travels back and forth for work, which can lead to chaos. Amal is frequently in London dealing with clients or in The Hague, Netherlands, which is the location of the International Criminal Court.
Amal disclosed in May that she had spent the previous four months working on a panel with other foreign legal experts there, "evaluating evidence of suspected war crimes and crimes against humanity in Israel and Gaza." The panel's work resulted in a detailed report that supported a series of arrest warrants. Other members of the panel included international legal experts.
“She’s doing so much around the world that most people don’t even know about. Her career will never take a back seat to George’s career, and she made that clear to him very early on,” the mole suggested.
Despite the fact that they are spending time together in their Italian house, George and Amal are constantly thinking about their profession.
“Neither of them thinks twice about putting in 18-hour days on projects they’re passionate about. The only time they really have to ‘overlap’ is when they’re on vacation. But when you live in Lake Como, the urge to actually take a vacation doesn’t come up that often. They both have their own staff and friends, and there’s not a lot of crossover,” the snitch said.
It is added by a naysayer that whenever they do have some spare time, George and Amal spend it with their twin children, Alexander and Ella, who are seven years old, and "not necessarily with each other." This allegedly does not bode well for the future of their partnership.
“They seem like the picture of bliss on the red carpet, and of course they always gush about each other in public, but friends are wondering if they’ll make it. A lot of Hollywood couples don’t,” the source said, adding that recent security worries over her job in international human rights and his outspoken political views have both added to the pressures that have been present in the marriage up until this point.
According to the insider, the two of them place a high priority on the health and happiness of their family. “The twins’ happiness is their top priority,” it stated. Several things would be at risk if George and Amal continued to drift apart from one another. Not only would the children be at risk, but so would their combined fortune of 600 million dollars. The Lake Como villa is valued at least one hundred million dollars on its own.
“A divorce would be a nightmare,” the informant shared. It stated that the couple is making an effort to spend more quality time together as they approach their ten-year anniversary.
The tipster also mentioned that George actually accepted the role in the Broadway play that was based on his film "Good Night, and Good Luck," which was released in 2005. This is due to the fact that Amal may be spending more time in New York City as part of her job as an adjunct professor at Columbia University.
On the other hand, it is evident that she will continue to travel quite a bit, and he will not be able to escape as readily. Due to this tragic circumstance, George and Amal will allegedly once again be living separate lives.
